County has two adult-education programs

Thank you for the great story regarding adult education in Colorado and the signing of House Bill 1085 authorizing the Adult Education and Literacy Act in Colorado (Herald, June 16).

I do, however, have a few corrections to make that were stated incorrectly in your story. There are currently two adult education programs in La Plata County: the Durango Education Center serves Durango and the Pine River Community Learning Center serves the Pine River Valley from Vallecito Lake to Navajo Lake, with two sites – one in Bayfield and one in Ignacio.

I am the executive director. Also housed at Pine River Community Learning Center is a two-way interactive broadcast system with Utah State University, where students can earn a certificate through a Ph.D. without leaving Ignacio or Bayfield. Pine River serves more than 700 students each year.
