La Plata County will hold an informational public meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the Vallecito Community Event Center about a county draft resolution to designate a half mile of Middle Mountain Road (CR 501G) as an off-highway vehicle route. This would allow the operation of off-highway vehicles and snowmobiles on CR 501G to its terminus at Forest Road 724.
This is the bottom half mile of the road that is flanked by private land. People routinely use the parking area at the bottom of the road to unload their all-terrain vehicles from trailers.
County staff will present information on the resolution, discuss its background and solicit public comment from the community. This meeting is informational only; no decisions will be made. The La Plata County Board of Commissioners will formally consider the matter at a regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 24.
