First, I would like to write what I believe about socialists. Socialists want to take my money and give it to someone else. Socialists think they know better how I should live my life than I do. Socialists don’t believe that people should own land; it should all belong to the state for the greater good.
With that in mind, I can only conclude that the La Plata County Land Plan must have been written by socialists. The whole document smacks of a “taking” and a taking without compensation.
For example, if you own a parcel of land and some socialist employed by the county decides that it is nice to look at or over, that property can be subject to a scenic overlook classification that would extend for 500 feet from the center line of the nearest road over the subject property. Within that scenic overlook one can do virtually nothing and it covers not just the 500 feet but the entire parcel, even though most of the parcel may be outside of the 500 feet.
Now, you may think that this would apply only in the mountains, most of which is National Forest. Not true. It would impact properties all the way to the New Mexico border, and virtually all of the property along the rivers could be so condemned.
And, yes, I believe it to be a condemnation, an unconstitutional taking.
I hope that Brad Blake and Julie Westendorff have enough sense to condemn this thing to the trash basket.
