The La Plata County Road and Bridge department will be conducting a mill and overlay resurfacing project that will reduce traffic to one lane for two weeks on a 2.6-mile stretch of County Road 501A, according to a news release from the county.

The closures will be in effect between mile marker 13 near the southern access point for Vallecito Dam and mile marker 10.4, near Cool Water Road.

Work is scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday through Oct. 10, and delays up to 20 minutes should be anticipated for motorists navigating through the closure zone during work hours, the release said.

“Every attempt will be made to minimize traffic delays during peak morning and afternoon commuting hours,” the release said. “Motorists are encouraged to allow a little extra travel time for their commute and to drive with caution through the work zone, for their own safety and the safety of the work crews.”

Equipment breakdowns or inclement weather could cause a delay of scheduled completion dates, the release said.
