County runs well: Keep Gwen and Julie

I have lived here for over 40 years. I’ve seen county governments come and go. Some of you remember when our county roads were either choking dust or seas of mud. Remember when the energy companies would send in the bulldozers without any consideration of the property owners? Things are surely better now.

We have a pair of county commissioners who are doing a great job. They have serious challenges considering that we have a very low tax rate. Nevertheless, we do have good services, a reasonably responsive planning department, excellent law enforcement, a good building department, a road and bridge crew doing the most they can on a limited budget and all the other services counties are obliged to provide.

My personal experience recently includes the drilling of a pair of gas wells on our property. The big rig was set up the day the Herald reported that there were no drill rigs in La Plata County. We survived that process with minimum discomfort thanks to the regulations put in place by the state and our county over the years.

I was pleased with the attention given by our county planners. The Republican candidates think that these regulations are wrong. I disagree. Good government isn’t very interesting. Lets keep it that way.

Gwen Lachelt and Julie Westendorff are doing a great job. Reelect Lachelt and Westendorff!
