County’s tax study for airport incomplete

As a resident and land owner in La Plata County, I think the county’s study on the property tax versus sales tax for expanding the airport is out of line and not complete.

The survey only covered businesses – not the impact on all of the area’s property owners. I would bet the businesses gain more from the airport than the farmers and ranchers who also pay property tax.

And the county would also like a property tax increase for roads and bridges. We are taxing the property owners out, just like we did with oil and gas.

Wouldn’t a user’s tax and sales tax be more fair? I have always felt that you pay for what you use.
