La Plata County Extension Office, in cooperation with Colorado Department of Health and Environment, will offer a certification course for cottage food and egg producers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The course will cover requirements, business specifics and current expectations for the sale of backyard eggs and food items produced in home kitchens, including food safety, safe-food handling, cross-contamination and contact with food allergens, temperature control for safe-food preparation, storage, transport, sales, ingredient labels and disclaimers.
Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate for display.
Course fees are $30 per person. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. April 5.
