Cowboy Gathering premier performer cancels; R.W. Hampton to take his place

R.W. Hampton will be the premier performer for the Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering with two shows on Thursday. Hampton is one of the leading Western entertainers in America.

Performer Dave Stamey was to hold the premier spot, but was called away by a family emergency.

Hampton grew up in Texas and has lived and worked on ranches all over the West. His songs are based on his experiences with cattle drives, horseshoeing, campfires and horse rides. He has performed all over the U.S. and in England, Australia, and Brazil. In 1985, he worked on Kenny Rogers’ movie “Wild Horses” and has been in 12 movies since. He was inducted into the Western Music Association Hall of Fame in 2011. He has 13 albums to his credit.

Hampton will be the featured performer in shows at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Durango VFW, 1550 Main Ave.
