Cowboy parade announces winners

The 34th annual Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering Parade drew about 1,500 people to downtown on Saturday, Pam Jacobs, parade coordinator, said. Around 200 people and at least 100 horses, plus many mules and burros, from 28 entries participated in the parade. (Christian Burney/Durango Herald)

The Durango Cowboy Parade, the largest motorless parade in Colorado, took place Saturday.

Parade entries were judged and trophies were awarded to the winners in the these categories:

  • Most Impressive Horse Entry: Back Country Horsemen.
  • Most Impressive Mule/Donkey Entry: Ft. Carson Mounted Color Guard.
  • Most Fashionable Animal: Durango Fiesta Royalty.
  • Best Spirit of the Old West: Ft. Carson Mounted Color Guard.
  • Best Family Entry: Dexter, the Wonder Dog of Ouray.
  • Best Walking Entry: Ballet Folklorico.
  • Best Wagon Entry: The Victorians/Durango Joes Coffee.
  • Best Youth Entry: Southwest Silverados.
  • Silver Spur Award (Judges’ Choice): The Victorians.
