Cowboy Poetry favorite Jeneve Mitchell on ‘American Idol’

At 15, Jeneve Rose Mitchell is taking “American Idol” by storm. Locals who have watched the Crawford native grow up at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering will have their first chance to vote for her Thursday.

After becoming a favorite at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Jeneve Rose Mitchell is making her mark on “American Idol.”

Still in braces at 15, she’s made the top 14 and will perform Wednesday and Thursday to try to make the top 10. The first voting round opens for fans Thursday.

Jeneve made her debut at age 12 in Durango at a Durango Friends of the Arts event, where she played nine instruments.

There are five ways to vote: online at www.americanidol.com/vote or www.facebook.com/AmericanIdol; on the FOX NOWApp; using Google Search; texting the keyword number assigned to Jeneve on Thursday’s show along with the short code 21523; or using the toll-free method with Jeneve’s individual number, which will be announced during Thursday’s show. “American Idol” airs on Fox at 7 p.m. both nights, with a two-hour episode Thursday.
