In a back and forth volleyball match at Whalen Gymnasium, the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks fell in a 1-0 hole, rallied for a 2-1 lead, then lost 3-2 to New Mexico Highlands on Friday night at FLC.
N.M. Highlands (7-11, 3-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) beat FLC (5-12, 2-7 RMAC) 25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-11.
Alicia Moreno led the Cowgirls with 19 digs, 14 kills and an ace and an assist.
Ashley Wells led the Skyhawks with 17 kills, 10 digs and two aces in the loss.
Tianna Matthews, a freshman middle blocker, had 11 kills, three aces and two blocks. Kristin Woody, a freshman outside hitter, had 10 kills and five digs in the win.
Riley Smith and Shayli Schulz distributed the ball for the Cowgirls with 32 and 15 assists, respectively.
Jessica Piper also had 19 digs in victory.
Madi Bickle had 11 kills and seven blocks for FLC, Ally Dell’Amico led the Skyhawks with 18 digs, and Heather Danny and Ciara Krening had 23 and 14 assists, respectively.
FLC will host Western New Mexico at 7 p.m. Saturday at Whalen Gym.
