CPW hosting turkey hunting workshop in Pagosa

The spring turkey hunting season starts April 9 in Colorado.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering a free seminar on turkey hunting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday April 2, in Pagosa Springs at the CSU Extension Office at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are located on U.S. Highway 84 just southeast of town.

CPW staff and local turkey hunting guides will teach the basics of turkey hunting. The class will focus on helping novice hunters.

"The seminar will give you the knowledge and confidence to hunt wild turkeys in Colorado," said CPW Wildlife Officer Adrian Archuleta.

The key concepts that will be taught include: turkey biology; regulations for turkey hunting; equipment needed; safety; how to scout for turkeys; hunting tactics and strategies; and how to communicate with turkeys. CPW staff will also talk about where to hunt turkeys.

Turkey hunting is excellent in southwest Colorado. The spring season, when most people hunt turkeys, lasts from April 9 to May 22, the weather is warm and the days are long.

Seminar participants are encouraged to bring their own lunches. Wildlife officers will be available during lunch to talk about hunting.

To register for the class, please go to the CPW web site and fill out the form at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/79079.
