Crash closes County Road 234

Driver crashes into tree; at least one person transported by ambulance

A vehicle crashed into a tree on County Road 234 on Saturday, closing the road for about an hour and a half as emergency personnel attended to at least one person, according to La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies got a call at 11:48 a.m. about a vehicle that had driven off County Road 234 in the 4100 block “right there by the (Florida) river,” said Sgt. R. Paige.

Durango Fire Protection District transported at least one person to Mercy Regional Medical Center for precautionary care, Paige said. Law enforcement opened the road at 1:18 p.m., he said.

Bo Dean’s Towing & Body Shop towed a vehicle from the crash site – an employee declined to identify the vehicle.

DFPD did not provide patient information. The Sheriff’s Office and DFPD did not have information identifying the vehicle, the driver and any passengers.

Colorado State Patrol did not immediately respond to a call seeking information.
