Create worldly room to celebrate the arts

All the good deeds our wonderful community does, seen in the Herald’s series on nonprofits (Aug. 24-27), could go to greater heights with a world-community room. This center could welcome everyone from everywhere sharing their cultural baskets in music, ballet, art pieces, endless possibilities. I would love to hear the voices, in person, from people I heard on a CD, Buena Vista Social Club, several years ago from Cuba.

If Olympic committees can put together places where the best in a variety of sports meet from countries that have no problem going to war with us, why not break bread with all of them in Durango? Perhaps the new arts center that plans to move from East Second Avenue to a new home on the Animas River could accommodate a “Dove Wing” for our brothers and sisters next door and across our oceans.
