Firefighters remain on scene to monitor a small, lightning-caused fire burning in a remote area that has received recent rain about three miles southwest of Henderson Lake on Missionary Ridge.
“The fire is smoldering and creeping within a previously unburned area north of the Missionary Ridge burn scar,” said Chris Tipton, Columbine District fire management officer.
Thunderstorms are tracking toward the fire, which has a moderate to high potential to receive rain over the weekend, according to a news release issued Friday by Ann Bond, public affairs specialist with the San Juan National Forest.
“We don’t expect it to spread more than two or three acres, due to numerous natural barriers, already-moist fuel conditions, and a potentially wet weather forecast,” Tipton said in the news release.
Smoke is visible from the U.S. Highway 550 corridor. No closures or impacts to public uses are anticipated.
