There's been another tragic shooting. This time at a public high school in Evergreen, followed closely on the heels of the shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis.
How do we stop these senseless killings? The killer's manifesto says he picked his location because it was a gun free zone and people would not be able to fight back. That is very common with people that are so troubled that they want to kill lots of strangers.
The killer at Sandy Hook Elementary School also chose his location because it was a gun free zone. So true of the Aurora movie theater. There are far too many other examples for me to cite in this limited space.
Schools are gun free zones. What's the logic behind that? Do people really think a killer is going to see a “Gun Free Zone” sign on a school and say “I can't do a mass shooting here because they won't let me bring my gun in there. Maybe I'll just go home and post mean things on social media.”
Forgive me for stating the obvious, but criminals don't follow laws. Law abiding citizens follow the laws and rules. This ensures that there will be no resistance in a gun free zone.
There may be justifications for some gun free zones but most are delusionally optimistic. School buildings, where most of the occupants are children, should never have “Gun Free Zone” signs. They might as well say “Please come here to kill our children.”
