A recent article (June 11, “Rep. Lauren Boebert calls on critical race theory to be banned in schools”) attributed comments in support of critical race theory to Jennifer Trujillo, a dean at Fort Lewis College.
Trujillo said that CRT does not encourage division but rather inclusion. These are astonishing claims about a philosophy that teaches that all white people are born racist oppressors and that all people of color are born helpless victims of oppression. Encouraging division is precisely what CRT does and is intended to do, by fostering guilt upon some races and resentment among others.
CRT teaches that all people should be judged by the color of their skin, as oppressor or oppressed, as racist or victim. As explained by CRT advocates Barbara Applebaum and Robin Diangelo, respectively, “all white people are racist or complicit” in racism and “white identity is inherently racist.”
One could hardly conceive of a philosophy that is more divisive and patently false than CRT. In truth, nothing about one’s character is associated with the color of their skin, and it’s racist to suggest otherwise.
Trujillo encouraged diverse perspectives and teaching kids to be critical thinkers. I’d encourage students to take Trujillo up on her offer, do their own research and challenge the divisive, Marxist propaganda of CRT. It’s good to be open minded, but not so open minded that your brain falls out.
