A small aircraft hit power lines Thursday morning close to Colorado Highway 151 east of Ignacio.

Dan Bender, spokesman with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, said there were no injuries, and the plane probably was crop-dusting or spraying pesticides for agricultural purposes.

Bender said to his knowledge, the plane didn’t crash. “Apparently it clipped the power lines there,” he said.

Indiana Reed, spokeswoman for La Plata Electric Association, said she didn’t know who was flying the plane.

“Only two customers were affected. It must have been pretty dramatic though. I guess it was a crop-duster flying south over a single-phase distribution line. It didn’t pull up in time, and took down three spans of line at about 8:40 this morning,” she said.

LPEA quickly sent out crews to repair the damage in the 1600 block of Highway 151.

The sheriff’s office sent deputies to the site, where they assisted with road control.

Reed said two residential customers lost power as a result of the accident.

They got it back by lunch.
