Crosswalk near Mountain Middle School ‘a serious hazard’

I am writing to express my deep concern about a serious hazard in our town of Durango.

The pedestrian crosswalk on the 2900 block of north Main Avenue within two blocks of Mountain Middle School. This is extremely dangerous and not visible enough. I have personally witnessed many near-miss incidents where children and other pedestrians were almost hit by vehicles.

With the start of the new school year, this situation becomes even more alarming. Every day, children use this crosswalk, and it is only a matter of time before a tragic accident occurs. As a community, we must take immediate action to prevent such a disaster.

Measures such as better signage, enhanced lighting and possibly the addition of a crossing guard during school hours could make a significant difference. It is imperative to address this hazard.

Let's not wait for a tragedy to spur us into action. The safety of our children and fellow residents should be our top priority.
