Archaeologist Grant Coffey will give a presentation titled “Digitizing the Past: Recent 3D Modeling at Crow Canyon” about aerial drones and 3D technology at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center campus, 23390 County Road K, in Cortez.
Coffey is from the Dove Creek area with farming roots in Dolores County and holds a master’s degree in archaeology from Northern Arizona University. He specializes in geographic information system archaeology at Crow Canyon and researches how to use aerial and drone photography to create 3D models of archaeological sites. The models allow access to archaeological sites for people who are unable to visit them in person.
Part of the 2018 Four Corners Lecture Series, the event is free and open to the public.
