Crow causes Florida Road outage

A crow proved to be the guilty culprit in a power outage that left more than 900 homes along Florida Road (County Road 240) without electricity.

All power was restored as of 6:30 p.m., La Plata Electric Association spokeswoman Indiana Reed said.

“As we get into spring, the birds and animals are starting to move around,” Reed said. “We do our best to protect the system from animal or avian interference, but it does happen. Thankfully, this was not a significant issue.”

The outage began at about 4:50 p.m., and as of 5:35 p.m., Reed had said there were only 13 homes still without power.

The outage stretched from the 1200 almost to the 2000 block of Florida Road, and then north up East Animas Road (County Road 250).

The crow, alas, did not survive its encounter with power equipment.
