Several leaders from University of Colorado, including regents Sue Sharkey, Glen Gallegos and CU Colorado Springs Chancellor Venkat Reddy, will visit Durango to meet with local legislators, education leaders, member of the Southern Ute tribe and CU alumni.
The visit is scheduled for Tuesday. CU will host a lunch for alumni and local leaders at noon at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave.
Luncheon invitees also include Fort Lewis President Tom Stritikus, Rep. Barbara McLachlan, Rep. Marc Catlin, former Sen. Ellen Roberts and congressional staff members.
Topics of discussion will include teacher education (in particular, teacher shortages), potential partnerships and issues that may surface in the 2019 session of the Colorado General Assembly.
Additionally, CU Boulder Law School Dean James Anaya will meet with leadership from the Southern Ute Indian ribe.
The CU delegation will also include CU Boulder Senior Vice Chancellor and CFO Kelly Fox, CU Boulder Education Dean Kathy Schultz, CU Boulder Alumni Director Ryan Chreist, CU Colorado Springs Education Dean Valerie Conley and CU Vice President of Government Relations Tanya Kelly-Bowry.
