I wanted to take the opportunity to express my appreciation to the city of Durango for the new bike lanes coming into town on Junction Creek Rd. I commute to work a few days a week and those dedicated bike lanes have made a remarkable difference in regards to safety.
I recognize that residents who live on that street had to make a sacrifice as far as parking goes, and I appreciate the fact that probably hasn’t been easy. However, as a cyclist there is always the danger of someone opening a car door as you pass by, which can cause a cyclist to swerve into traffic, making it necessary to give parked cars a wide clearance.
Durango’s kids also deserve safe routes to school. Anything we can do to increase safety and, in turn, encourage more people to ride bikes for transportation is going to help our community in the long run.
Thank you for the good work.
