Cyclists, pedestrians must share road

I respect the bicyclists here in Durango, mainly because I could never do what they do – especially riding up County Road 240 toward Lemon Reservoir. Just thinking about it tires me out.

I see signs and hear people say that you must share the road. What I do not understand is why it is OK for bicyclists to ride three or four side by side?

Drivers cannot pass them without moving into the oncoming traffic lane.

I am a patient person, but doesn’t “share the road” include automobiles as well?

On another note, I’ve driven on Third Avenue many times and quite often bicyclists run the stop sign right in front of me. I always go a mile or two slower than the speed limit on Third Avenue because of this and the fact that many adults walk into the crosswalk without even looking to see if there is a car coming.

Are not we taught to look both ways in kindergarten? I just don’t understand the logic here.

Dear bicyclists and walkers: Please don’t retort using angry words and insults. I’m just trying to make sense of this.
