Coming off strong performances in regional competitions, the Bayfield High School dance and cheer teams are heading to the Colorado state spirit championships this weekend in Denver.
The dance team, after taking second at state last year in pom competition, is confident this is the year they will capture a state title.
Their pom routine is performed to a remixed version of the pop song "I Love You."
The girls said they are ready for state competition, and they're just a little nervous, added Kelea Damp, one of three seniors preparing for her final state competition.
"Just until that first note of music starts," added Peri Milner.
This year, the team has three freshman, and this will be their first state competition at the Denver Coliseum. The team is set to perform on Saturday morning.
The BHS dance team not only took the 3A regional title last month in Grand Junction, they were the top-ranked dance team overall.
BHS cheer took fifth place in regional competition in October in Pueblo. The squad has 15 members this year and performs Friday morning in the 2A-3A coed team preliminary competition. The top teams advance to final competition later that day.
