Outwitting Mother Nature is virtually impossible in a year of severe drought. She has given us just a few inches of snow and almost no rain, setting the perfect and predictable conditions for fire. How can she be so cruel? Yes, we know she is to blame and that blame could be extended even to our Creator unless we, like myself, are too deistic to do so.
With these conditions, without rain, we know definitely that these fires were bound to happen, just as they may continue anywhere, at any time, by any means. Lacking omniscience and omnipotence, we may have no control over that, which still does not relieve us of the responsibility, insofar as our limited capacity for foresight allows, for vigilance, awareness and concern. We can and must be grateful for our firefighters, our neighbors and friends, our families, and for those offering kindness and assistance. And we must support all those individuals and businesses in our community who everyday throughout the year offer their services, aid and adventures. Let us all now forgo anger, fear and irrationality and be on guard, while dancing, hoping and praying.
