David McHenry for Durango City Council

Durango is very fortunate to have five outstanding individuals running for the three open seats on City Council. During the campaign, all five candidates have demonstrated an admirable level of commitment and hard work. However, after careful consideration of his comments, experience and record, I have concluded that the candidate who will best represent all city residents is David McHenry.

David McHenry has successfully worked to help preserve the limited housing stock for people who live and work in Durango in two very important ways. First, he fought to limit the number of vacation rentals allowed in the older, established neighborhoods. Facing a petition drive, the city council adopted more stringent rules regulating the number of vacation rentals, thus keeping more housing available to local families.

Secondly, David McHenry was instrumental in helping to convince several of the city council members to vote for the rule that limits ownership of homes with an accessory dwelling unit to people who live in one of the units. This policy helps to create housing opportunities for local citizens instead of outside investors. It also helps to keep neighborhoods safe and healthy.

These efforts represent concrete actions, not campaign rhetoric. They also demonstrate that, unlike some candidates, he has no hidden agenda. David McHenry’s agenda is simply and openly to work for the benefit of all city residents. I think that as a member of city council, David McHenry will continue to advocate for safe, healthy neighborhoods and for smart, responsible growth.

Please join me in voting for David McHenry for City Council.
