I think there is a difference between the definition of art and the definition of one’s personal taste in art. My definition of art is a representation created by an individual or individuals who make an aesthetic decision with each step of the creative process and who intend to convey feeling and/or thought.
From what I have seen in homes and in countless galleries, the definition of personal taste in art has an infinite variation. This variation makes the general acceptance of public art difficult.
However, I love public art, and I’m willing to set aside a great deal of my own personal taste to welcome it. I find myself detouring to go through the intersection of Highway 160 and Camino del Rio again and again, so I can get yet another look at Durango’s newest piece of public art.
