Delegate backs Bernie at state convention

Fellow Southwest Coloradans and residents of Congressional District 3, I’m running to be a Bernie Sanders delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this summer, asking other 3rd District delegates to vote for me at our State Democratic Convention in Loveland, April 15 and 16, to fight for Bernie as a national delegate.

As a lifetime Westerner who first moved to Colorado from the state of Washington in 1974, I am concerned about rural agricultural and natural resource issues, including food and water security and proper management of our public lands. As a business owner in Durango for 22 years, I have fought for a local living economy that supports small locally owned businesses and our local organic food economy.

As a 69-year-old grandfather of three mixed-race children, I’m concerned about the future we create and leave for our children and how our justice system will treat them. That means a fair and equitable economy, as well as healing our environment and addressing the climate disruption caused by global warming.

As a Vietnam combat veteran, I’m concerned about America’s involvement in ongoing protracted wars that have no endgame. We must cost-efficiently balance the management of our defense to effectively address threats our nation faces and broaden our notion of these threats to include our needs at home and the threat of climate change.

Bernie Sanders is the only candidate who has inspired a profoundly conscious and compassionate political uprising that is focused on rebuilding the health of our people, infrastructure, environment and country. His proposals are grounded in solid reasoning and evidence – not pie-in-the-sky nonsense or incrementalism.
