Democrats right about Tipton concerns

The Durango Herald’s story claiming that national Democratic ads had misrepresented Scott Tipton’s record on holding town halls (“

This seems to me more of an understandable mistake than a misrepresentation and, in fact, there is more to the story.

While Tipton was indeed at a public meeting in Durango for 35 minutes on August 4, 2017, in the company of Gov. Hickenlooper and Senators Bennet and Gardner, after visiting the Gold King Mine with then EPA chief Scott Pruitt, Mr. Tipton did not answer questions at that event and allowed others to take the lead. The Herald’s own August 4, 2017 article noted the complaint of someone present that this meeting was in the middle of a workday and that less than 24 hours’ notice of the meeting was given.

Mr. Tipton was asked when he would return for an individual town hall with voters and that has not happened. Instead, he seems preoccupied with raising money from out-of-state donors.

Mr. Tipton lives only 30 minutes from Durango and frequently flies through our airport. To hope that he would actually spend some time here in La Plata County, as our representative, listening to – and addressing – our concerns is really not too much to ask.

As our representative, it’s time for Tipton to show up and explain to our voters the decisions he makes.
