A debate between the two Democratic candidates for La Plata County treasurer – incumbent Allison Aichele and Tim Walsworth – will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Extension Building at La Plata County Fairgrounds.
The public is invited to attend the debate, which will be hosted by the League of Women Voters.
Ballots for the primary election will be mailed Wednesday. The Primary Election will be held June 26.
The primary will be the first election in which unaffiliated voters can participate and vote in the primary of their choice – either the Democratic or Republican primary.
Unaffiliated candidates cannot vote in both primaries. Instead, they must choose which party’s primary election they wish to vote in. If an unaffiliated voter returns ballots for both the Democratic and Republican primaries, both ballots will be invalidated.
The contest to be the Democratic nominee for county treasurer is the only contested local race in La Plata County on the primary ballot.
La Plata County Clerk Tiffany Parker said completed ballots that are not mailed by June 19 should be dropped off at four ballot drop-off boxes in La Plata County:
La Plata County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, 98 Everett St., Suite C, in Durango.
La Plata County Administration Building, 1101 East Second Ave., in Durango.
Farmers Fresh Market, 535 Goddard Ave., in Ignacio.
Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway, in Bayfield.
