The Durango High School girls’ soccer team stayed undefeated in the 4A/5A Southwestern League with a pair of road wins during the weekend.
DHS beat Grand Junction Central 4-1 on Friday and followed it up with a tight, 2-1 victory against Montrose on Saturday.
With the wins, DHS improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the league. Central slipped to 5-2, 1-2 while Montrose moved to 5-2, 0-2.
Next, DHS will play Fruita Monument, which is 7-2 overall and also 3-0 in league play, on Friday in Grand Junction for sole possession of first place in the league. Durango will also play league foe Grand Junction (0-6-1, 0-3) on Saturday.
Sarah Somrak helped lead Durango’s offense against Central. Somrak scored two goals in the game and assisted one more. Mason Rowland and Reese Dahly also scored goals while Riley Campbell assisted two and Peyton Cioppa assisted on another.
The Demons had 19 shots in the game while its goalies, Riley Dastrup and Ryne Neiman, each made two saves.
Against Montrose, the teams went into halftime even, 1-1, but Durango was able to net the game-winner in the second half.
Carter Neiman and Rowland scored for DHS while Campbell had one assist.
DHS fired 21 shots in the game while its goalies had to make 11 saves. In the second half, however, Montrose only put four shots on frame.
