Demons avoid trap game

Durango boys soccer rolls Central behind Soignier’s hat trick

Sandwiched between games against top Southwestern League competition in Montrose and Fruita Monument, it would’ve been easy for the Durango High School boys soccer team to perhaps take its eye off Grand Junction Central.

Didn’t happen.

DHS put the sting of the home loss to Montrose in the rearview mirror, topping the Warriors 4-1 on Friday in Grand Junction.

The Durango offense, a bit stagnant at times against the Indians, roared back to life. Zeb Soignier had a hat trick, and Tony Williams added the other for the Demons (4-2, 2-1 SWL).

Junior Lars Schwaebe got the start in net for Durango and stopped six shots, allowing only a salvo from Tanner Carroll to get behind him. The Demons held an 18-13 advantage in shots, while Grand Junction Central (4-6, 1-4 SWL) goalkeeper Lorenzo Archuleta made six saves.

DHS will face Fruita Monument at 11 a.m. Saturday.
