Demons baseball drops final regular season games against Palisade

Durango finished regular season 2-4 in last six games, awaits regional seeding

The Durango High School baseball team didn’t finish the regular season on a high note, losing on the road to Palisade on Friday, 4-2, and Saturday, 11-0.

Palisade outhit Durango 23-7 over the two games. Durango finished the regular season 13-8 overall and 5-5 in the 4A/5A Southwestern League. The Demons lost four of their last six games. Palisade finished its regular season 15-8 overall and 7-3 in the 4A/5A Southwestern after the two wins.

On Friday, Palisade started with a 1-0 lead after the first inning but Durango responded with two runs in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. The Bulldogs had the final say and scored two runs in the sixth for the win.

The Bulldogs outhit the Demons 9-5 on Friday. Senior Jack Englund and sophomore Duncan Walsh led Durango with two hits each. Junior Austin Romero pitched six innings for Durango and had one strikeout.

Palisade became the first team to shut out Durango this season with its 11-0 win on Saturday in five innings of action.

The first inning was ugly for the Demons as they fell into a 7-0 hole. Palisade added a run in the second, a run in the third and two runs in the fourth to close out the game. The Bulldogs outhit the Demons 14-2.

Walsh and junior Dawson McInnes each had a hit for Durango. Englund pitched just over two innings and allowed five hits and two runs while striking out one batter. McInnes pitched just over an inning and allowed eight hits, eight runs and he struck out one batter. Junior Sam Clark pitched an inning and allowed one hit and one run.

The Demons finished the regular season with the most wins since 2021 and await their regional seeding. Durango will be on the road and will find out what two other teams will be in their regional pod on Wednesday.
