Thursday’s tournament at the Pagosa Springs Golf Course must’ve felt like déjà vu for the Durango High School boys golf team.
The Demons finished the tournament in second behind Montezuma-Cortez for the second consecutive day.
They shot a 238, while the Panthers scored a 231.
“The toughest part was adjusting to the greens,” DHS head coach Kirk Rawles said. “Everyone had at least two three-putts, and that was the difference between first and second.”
Cory Gillespie repeated his second-place finish from Wednesday with a 76. Montezuma-Cortez’s Jakob Rudosky finished first for the second consecutive day, shooting a 3-under 68.
Cameron Barnhardt shot a 79 for DHS, followed by Tyler Bogus’ 83, Bo Ward’s 84 and Cy Spicer’s 85 to round out the Demons’ varsity numbers.
Daniel McElwain scored an 83 to lead the junior varsity, while Dillon Hoselton shot a 90, Garrett Mulkey a 90, Blake Martin a 92, Eric Walker a 94, Kevin Cornett a 100 and Spencer Davila a 105.
“Daniel’s round was exceptional,” Rawles said. “We’ll probably try to get him a couple more starts.”
The Demons will continue their season Wednesday at Devil’s Thumb Golf Club in Delta.
