The Durango High School boys soccer team could be heading to the playoffs on a high note.
The Demons topped Coronado 3-0 on Friday in Colorado Springs to cap a 9-5-1 regular season, with CHSAA set to release its postseason brackets Sunday.
DHS got goals from senior Zeb Soignier, who has five in the last three games, Dylan McLain and Chris Beach.
“We locked up a big win (Thursday) with the 4-1 win (over Rampart), and we came through and sort of solidified ourselves with the 3-0 win,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said.
Durango was able to keep possession, not allowing many chances for the Cougars (4-10-0).
DHS goalkeeper Patrick Leach made two saves to earn the clean sheet.
“That’s pretty much what we did. We were able to keep the ball in our possession the whole time, and we worked really good combination play, and it helped out our defense by us keeping the ball and letting the possession be our defense,” Parker said.
Parker said he was informed by DHS athletic director Roxanne Perrin that the Demons likely secured a place in the Class 4A postseason with the victory, although nothing becomes official until Sunday.
If the Demons are indeed on to the second season, they’ll do so on the strength of a three-game winning streak.
“Right now, the boys and I are in the mindset that it really doesn’t matter what seed we get; we just want to play and show everybody what we’re made of,” Parker said.
