Awards continue to pour in for members of the 2017 Durango High School girls soccer team.
Durango junior Taylor Klone received a CHSAA 4A All-State Honorable Mention after another impressive season on the pitch.
Klone led the Demons with nine goals and 22 points in her third varsity season. She combined for six points in the playoffs, as she scored a goal in each of the two playoff games and added two assists. Klone’s hat trick and six-point game highlighted a Demons win against Montrose. She also scored the only Durango goals in a 2-0 win against Fruita Monument that proved to be instrumental in winning the SWL league title in a tiebreaker with their league rival Wildcats.
Seniors Lane Arnwine, Peyton Floyd, Chloe Taylor and freshman goalkeeper Emily Badgley joined Klone as All-Southwestern League First Team selections. Junior defender Autumn Stevens was named to the Second Team.
Arnwine’s seven goals and 19 points were second on the team behind Klone. She earned All-SWL First Team honors for the second consecutive season. Floyd finished the season with three goals and an assist from the midfield position and Taylor led the team with eight assists.
This year’s Demons won their first 5A/4A Southwestern League title since 2012. They earned the No. 9 seed in the CHSAA 4A Girls Soccer State Championships and won their opening-round playoff game against Cañon City 6-0. It was the first playoff win the team has produced since 2008. Durango came up just short in the second round with a 3-2 overtime loss to No. 8 Mullen.
Fruita’s Lila Dere was named the SWL Player of the Year and coach Alex Garza received Coach of the Year honors.
Bayfield junior Savannah Kaufmann earned 3A Region 5 All-League honors, while senior Lenka Doskocil received an Honorable Mention. Kaufmann scored a team-high 16 goals and took home CHSAA First Team All-Academic distinctions.
Ignacio senior Ryley Webb also earned an honorable mention selection in 2A Region 4 league.
