The Durango High School girls soccer team stayed undefeated while giving Montrose its second loss of the season Saturday at DHS, 5-1.
Sarah Somrak got the scoring going for DHS. Riley Campbell then placed a corner kick in the box, and Makayla Wayman headed it into the goal to put DHS up 2-0.
Later in the half, Mason Rowland charged into the box for a loose ball and bounced a goal into the net just before colliding with Montrose’s goalie.
The Indians capitalized on a penalty kick after getting tripped in the box to cut Durango’s lead to 3-1.
The Demons, however, scored on two set pieces to extend their lead in the second half.
Adde Neiman scored on a long free kick that bounced through Montrose’s defense and into the goal.
Later, Campbell took a free kick from 40 yards out. Her shot sailed over Montrose’s defense and landed right in front of its keeper, bouncing into the goal before the goalie could hop on it.
DHS goalie Jocelyn Feir, meanwhile, made four saves to get the win. With about 2 minutes left, Montrose attacked and had a couple players deep in Durango territory, but Feir dove on a crossing pass to end the threat and keep Montrose from gaining any momentum.
DHS improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the SWL with the win.
