Durango High School’s streak of consecutive appearances in the CHSAA Boys Soccer State Championships continues through more than a decade.
During that span, the Demons have transitioned from Class 5A to Class 4A and through three head coaches, including first-year boys head coach Dalon Parker this season. Parker coached the DHS girls program last year, and he’ll do so again next spring.
After finishing out the remainder of its must-win schedule with wins, DHS will carry its three-game winning streak, 9-5-1 overall record and No. 25 seed into the first round of the Class 4A playoffs at No. 8 Battle Mountain at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Battle Mountain High School in Edwards.
Battle Mountain is the defending Class 4A state champion.
“(Western Slope) League champion, defending state champion; there’s that, too,” Parker said Sunday when the postseason brackets were announced. “There’s definitely going to be a good respect value there for them. They’ve made their name known throughout Colorado doing what they do.”
