After racing Glenwood Springs and Sargent on Friday, the Durango High School girls swimming team dove back into the Fort Lewis College pool on Saturday and raced against Glenwood again as well as Montrose.
For the third time this season, however, Durango finished second behind Glenwood, 305-287, while Montrose finished third (201).
The Demons won two of the 12 events on Saturday, but improved some of their previous times.
Joellianna Rhode, who qualified for state with a first-place finish Friday in the 100-yard backstroke, won the 100 free on Saturday in 1 minute, 0.18 seconds.
DHS also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.40, which was more than five seconds faster than the team’s winning time Friday.
Elin Bjorklund Mischler finished second in the 50 free to lead DHS, crossing just 0.09 after Sadie Hoiland of Glenwood. Bjorklund Mischler also finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:35.18).
Maren Clay had the team’s top performance in the 100 back, placing third in 1:12.18.
In the 100-yard breast stroke, Cassidy Hill crossed fourth in 1:28.09 and Elyza Baumchen finished .48 seconds later in fifth.
Chloe Cook led DHS in the 200 free, crossing second in 2:12.16 while Abby Bowman finished fourth in 2:19.66.
Heidi Clay had the team’s top result in the 500 free, placing third in 6:54.14.
In the 200 medley relay, which Durango qualified for state on Friday, DHS placed third in 2:15.00.
DHS also finished second on the 400 free relay, in which the team also hit a state mark on Friday. The team’s time of 4:05.24 on Saturday, however, was more than two seconds faster than its previous state mark.
The Demons will head to the Front Range this week, competing at the Cheyenne Mountain Invite on Friday.
