So, Shane Dawson said “We’re a little behind the Denver area.” (“
After moving to Denver from Durango in 2012, it didn’t take long to see the cancer of over-development affecting the quality of life over there.
No one in local government there cared about infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the roughly 10,000 people moving into the Denver area each and every month. Any question of “where is all the water for those developments” is met with silence. And speaking of water, oil and natural gas fracking operations north of Denver are using up to about 1 million gallons of local water supplies per well.
Developers of apartments and condos were also approved to build without parking facilities for renters/owners. The reason cited was, “We are attempting to persuade residents to use more public transportation.”
My option was to move back to Durango late last year and I have never been happier with that decision. Yes, Durango has more traffic than ever while development expands. But I urge our local government leaders to avoid any attempts at keeping up with Denver.
Be careful what you wish for.
