DENVER – Denver police said a man was detained Wednesday night after driving his car through a group of people protesting a grand jury’s decision not to indict officers in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor.
Police said no injuries were reported. The Denver Post reported that at least one person was hit near the state Capitol but said she was not badly hurt.
The driver had pulled into an area where a small group of protesters were rallying and stopped after demonstrators surrounded his vehicle. The protesters shouted at the driver to turn around but he refused. Some protesters banged on the vehicles with their fists and the driver eventually accelerated into several protesters who were standing in front of his vehicle.
A woman who would only give her first name, Kate, was pushed to the ground and her bicycle was run over.
“I was kind of going up on the hood and I was like, ‘No, I’m not doing this,’ and I rolled over to the side,” she said. “He wasn’t gonna stop even though I was, like, on his hood.”
The incident happened after most of the crowd that had gathered for a peaceful demonstration earlier in the night left.
