It has been a year since the Federal Communications Commission ruled that orphan counties could finally receive television broadcasts from their own state. Yet, we are still being held hostage by the Nielsen Holdings Co. and many Albuquerque television stations that refuse to release La Plata and Montezuma counties from their designated marketing area.
Like many other La Plata County residents, I feel that we are being denied access to important information that can be viewed on television news broadcasts from Denver television stations. In an election year, it would be extremely helpful to be able to see and hear proposed legislation that will affect our lives in Southwest Colorado, plus see and hear debates from candidates running for elected state offices. It is long overdue for this situation to be corrected.
