The current heated debate over the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s presidency seems to be misunderstood by both sides. Representative John Lewis’ remarks about his feelings are his to state. Remember freedom of speech?
Democrats have been labeled poor losers, and yes, it was hard to lose that race. Unfortunately, due to the muddied circumstances of the election, we will never know the truth about the victor. Now we must deal with a president who is a petulant liar, cannot face criticism, is foul-mouthed and minded, and shows no experience or willingness toward fairness or leadership. This is a man-child who must bully and win, no matter the cost. His mean-spirited pronouncements about his primary opponents were beyond crude, and yet he was so proud of them, he could not stop using them.
This man and his “model” wife will enter our sacred White House, following a gracious, kind, patriotic president and first lady who were role models for all of us, children included. One wonders if the Lincoln bedroom will be rented for $1 million per night?
This is not my president and never will be. Respect is earned, not given. I am a retired federal employee who was proud to serve my country. I remain a proud American, hoping for peace and unity in our favored country.
I will go on speaking up, volunteering in my community and trying to do my best for all of our citizens to help them achieve their dreams. I will look for true leadership from our Congress and hope that they remember to work for all of the people and stand up to a demagogue.
