DHS boys soccer’s All-Southwestern League quartet

Four Demons earn All-SWL accolades
Zeb Soignier joined Durango teammates Sean Ackerman and Patrick Leach on the All-Southwestern League first team, while teammate Dylan McClain earned second-team accolades from the conference.

The Durango High School boys soccer team was well decorated after a 9-6-1 season and yet another trip to the postseason.

Three Demons landed on the All-Southwestern League first team, while one more was a second-team selection. Sean Ackerman, Patrick Leach and Zeb Soignier earned first-team nods, while Dylan McClain’s work earned him a second-team nod.

Ackerman, a senior midfielder/defender, scored once and compiled a team-high nine assists for Durango, which fell 2-1 in overtime to eventual state quarterfinalist and 2012 state champion Battle Mountain in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.

Leach, the Demons’ senior goalkeeper, had three shutouts and averaged 1.8 saves per game.

Soignier, meanwhile, was Durango’s leading goal scorer and points leader. He tallied 12 times in his senior season for Durango, finishing with a total of 25 points.

McClain, a junior, provided a steady presence in the midfield and was second on the Demons in assists with four. He’s the only one of the four DHS all-league selections who will return next year.

Dan McKee of Fruita Monument earned SWL Coach of the Year honors for leading the Wildcats to a 12-3-1 record, including a 9-0-1 league mark and an SWL crown.

The Wildcats doubled up on All-SWL honors as Wesley Padgett was selected as Player of the Year. Padgett scored 20 goals and added five assists for a total of 45 points.
