Grand Junction got its revenge against the Durango High School boys basketball team Saturday in Grand Junction.
The Tigers held DHS to four points in the first quarter and 10 in the first half of a 56-35 win that put them two games clear of Montrose atop the Southwestern League standings.
DHS (7-10, 3-4 SWL) shot 29 percent from the field.
“That first meeting with Grand Junction, we hit shots and beat them. (Saturday) it was a tough day. We had a lot of good looks, rushed some things maybe, but the ball didn’t go in the bucket,” DHS head coach Alan Batiste said.
Senior DJ Bay led the Demons with 10 points, while Josh Hobson and Terrence Trujillo each had seven.
DHS will hit the road Tuesday to play rival Montezuma-Cortez before closing the regular season with a home doubleheader with Fruita Monument at 7 p.m. Friday and Montrose at noon Saturday. The Demons then will play for their playoff lives in the 4A Western Slope tournament.
“We are guaranteed four more games. It’s a four-game season, but it’s an opportunity to make it to state,” Batiste said. “We need to focus on each game and come out on top. Cortez on Tuesday is the first of a bunch of big games for us.”
