Logan Clark and Sarah Lawton have one last volleyball match to play in their high school careers.
The two Durango High School seniors earned selections to the Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State team and will compete this summer in a seniors-only all-state game.
“Really proud of these young women, and it is a reflection of their commitment to Durango volleyball and our program,” DHS head coach Colleen Keresey said in an email to The Durango Herald.
Along with their all-state selections, Clark and Lawton also were named to the All-Southwestern League’s first team. Clark was the top setter in the league, and Lawton was a leading libero.
Recognized on the All-SWL second team was senior middle hitter Laura Lieb and junior outside hitter Maddie Robertson.
“Not often do we get four players on the all-conference team, so it is exciting that the other league coaches recognize the accomplishments of our team as a whole and these girls as individual players,” Keresey said.
DHS finished the 2014 season 14-10 and 6-4 in the SWL, good for a second-place finish in the league behind Montrose (22-6, 10-0 SWL). The Demons did not advance past the regional round of the state playoffs, losing their final game of the season 3-1 to Berthoud, the Class 4A Region 8 host.
“Sad to see our four seniors go but also very excited for the upcoming volleyball season,” Keresey said.
