Twice rescheduled, the Durango Demons finally got to play Overland on Friday.
And while there may have been some question over the final score, one thing is certain: The Durango High School girls lacrosse team won.
Originally rescheduled from late March, then rescheduled again from Thursday, DHS finally beat Overland 17-4, according to head coach Jenni Darlow, who tracks her goals with pen and pad as they happen, or 16-4, if you go by the opponents final scoreboard.
In the long run, I guess it really doesnt matter, Darlow said.
While the Demons were without a handful of their varsity starters, they did win in the return of Jesse Ransford, last years leading goal scorer. She scored four goals in her season debut.
Haley Dallas and Alyssa Montoya also scored four goals apiece.
We had a lot of spring break rust, Darlow said. We havent played since the 30th (March 30), then a week of break, the long bus ride, not a full varsity, five JV players ...
But we did fine, just a little spring break rust.
Sheila Prentice scored twice, and Abby Jackson, Payton Randle and Megan Robinson scored one apiece.
McKenna Rigdon started the first half in goal for the Demons, and freshman Cheyenne Coffey played the second half of the victory.
The big thing weve worked on this season is draw controls, and we started this game a lot stronger, said Darlow, who credited Tymbree Hawkins and Randle for their efforts in the circle and Dallas for possessing the winning draws.
If were over 50 percent, then Im happy.
Durango won better than 50 percent of its draws, 11 of 19.
In more rescheduled games, DHS (3-3) will play at Cherry Creek at 9 a.m. Saturday and at Green Mountain at 1 p.m. Saturday.
