The Durango High School football team won’t get to play its final regular season home game.

The team was scheduled to host Colorado Springs’ Mitchell at noon on Saturday, but Mitchell pulled out.

“Late this afternoon, Mitchell reached out and let us know that they are unable to come and play this Saturday,” Durango athletic director Ryan Knorr emailed Wednesday.

Knorr said he was working with the Colorado High School Activities Association and DHS head coach Todd Casebier on next steps and options, but wasn’t immediately able to find a replacement.

Mitchell, which also didn’t play last week, is 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the 3A Southern League. Its closest game was a 26-7 loss to Sierra, which Durango beat 64-0 last week. Mitchell’s last scheduled game is Nov. 4 against cross-town foe Harrison. A league game against Discovery Canyon isn’t on the team’s schedule.

Durango is 6-2, 3-0 and ranked No. 5 in class 3A by CHSAANow.com. Johnstown’s Roosevelt (8-0) is ranked No. 1 and is followed by Parker’s Lutheran (8-0), Fort Morgan (6-1) and Mead (6-1).

The Demons’ final scheduled game will be in Colorado Springs Nov. 5 against Sand Creek (4-4, 1-4).

The state 3A football playoffs, which will feature 16 teams, will begin the following week on Nov. 12.
