DHS girls bow out to the champions

Saddling the defending Class 4A state champions proved too tough a task for the Durango High School girls basketball team.

Pueblo South defeated the Demons 76-42 on Friday at the Colorado State Fair Events Center in Pueblo in the second round of the CHSAA Class 4A Girls Basketball State Championships.

Emily McCue led DHS (10-13) with 22 points in her final high school game.

DHS trailed 15-6 after the first quarter and 34-10 at halftime.

The Colts had a bye in the first round, while DHS (10-13) upset Cheyenne Mountain 57-40.

Pueblo South (22-2) will host Thompson Valley in the round of 16.

The Demons ended their season 10-13 overall, having won three out of their last four games.
